2010 became a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives and was elected as Chairperson of The House of Representatives 2010 and Chairperson of the women caucus in the Zanzibar House of Representatives 2010. She became the first women member to table a private motion on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and moved for amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act and evidence law which resulted in the amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act and Evidence Act and further increased the number of one-stop center for GBV cases in every district and campaign on GBV spearheaded by the Government. of the said laws.
In 2021 Hon Mgeni was appointed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan as a member of the National advisory committee on the Generation Equality Forum
Currently serving as Deputy Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representatives. She was the first woman to be elected as Deputy Speaker in Zanzibar In 2015.
Born in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and married with 3 children.
She has an Education MSc in Geography and Tourism Management and Tourism and Leisure in Sofia University Bulgaria.
