Prof Mohammed Hafidh Khalfan is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Zanzibar Presidential Delivery Bureau (PDB) since January 02, 2024. He has a strong background as an academician, a consultant, a mentor as well as a researcher.
An economist specializing in International Economics from UPM Malaysia, Mohammed had worked at the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA), SoS Children’s Village, Zanzibar University, Bank of Tanzania, and Zanzibar National Chamber of Commerce. He has served several Boards of Directors including ZIPA, Zanzibar Chamber of Commerce, Zanzibar Vocational Training Authority, Zanzibar Higher Education Loan Board, People’s Bank of Zanzibar, Zanzibar Fair Competition Commission, Office of the Controller and Auditor General, Zanzibar Chief Government Chemist Labs, Amana Bank, GS1 Tanzania, Centre for Islamic Finance Compliance and Advice and Zanzibar Research Centre for Socio-Economic Policy Analysis.
During his tenure as CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, he was a Co-chair of the team that prepared the Zanzibar National Export Strategy (NES) under the Commonwealth Secretariat. He also participated as a Senior Judge in the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fairs.
Mohammed used to be an active member of Non-State Actors. He serves as a trustee or board member in several NGOs including Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF), and Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF), to name a few. In 2015, he was honored to speak to the AU Panel of Eminent Personalities in Addis Ababa. Later in 2018, he was appointed to the Team of Eminent Persons of SADCC in the Zimbabwe General Elections. In August 2023, he was on an international observer mission to assess Zimbabwe’s Harmonized General Elections - 2023.
On the provision of social services, he has been actively involved in helping needy students in getting funding for their tertiary education through the UKUEM Education Fund, and reducing maternal mortality and newly born babies through the Kanga Maternity Trust.
